Founded in 1846 by New Yorkers Thomas and Walter Monteith, Albany is an Oregon city that is proud of its history. Nowhere else is this fact more evident than in the Historic Downtown district, where guests are welcome to peruse antique shops, restaurants, the original Albany Civic Theater, and the Carnegie library (one of the nation’s oldest libraries donated by the late millionaire and still in use).
